Located in the heart of Marbella’s protected historic center, La Posada occupies a former Moorish Funduk, a silent witness to the city’s urban history since the Islamic era. Restored in the 17th century, transformed and renamed multiple times over the centuries, the building has preserved its function as a guesthouse and remains deeply rooted in Marbella’s collective memory.
Tellure atelier was selected to reactivate this heritage through a project combining careful restoration of the original structure with the construction of a contemporary wing. The design reintroduces Arabic influences through materials and details, while expressing a deliberately contrasting architectural language in the new extension.
To address the limited façade openings—an inherent constraint of the dense urban fabric—Tellure atelier introduced a second patio at the heart of the new wing. This central void brings natural light, passive ventilation, and a sense of calm enclosure to the new spaces, acting as a bridge between the historic and the contemporary.
The hotel features eleven rooms, a private dining room, a historic patio bathed in natural light that serves as a versatile space for cultural events, and a spa inspired by traditional Moorish baths. One of the suites includes a private rooftop terrace, and several archaeological elements discovered on-site have been integrated into the interior layout, extending the dialogue between heritage and contemporary reinterpretation.
