Just outside Rabat, Chez Meryama is set in a rural landscape of farmland and cork oak forests. Designed as both an ecolodge and an agroecological farm, the project promotes a grounded approach to hospitality — one rooted in reconnection, transmission, and respect for the living world.
For Tellure atelier, this project carries special meaning. It represents one of the studio’s founding ambitions: to build with earth. The walls are made of adobe — a hand-formed mix of raw soil and plant fibers, sourced directly from the site. This breathable, natural material reflects a deliberate choice to work with the land, drawing on vernacular knowledge and low-impact techniques.
Chez Meryama is shaped by a broader commitment to ecological systems: rainwater is harvested for irrigation, wastewater is filtered through phytopurification, vermiculture is used on-site, and solar energy powers water pumping and heating. The landscape is designed according to permaculture principles, integrating fruit trees and edible plantings to foster a resilient, self-sustaining ecosystem.
This project reflects Tellure atelier’s core commitment: to work toward the revival of earthen construction as a way to create healthy spaces that resonate deeply with their environment.
